About Roller Sport South Africa

Registered NPO 103-938

Roller Sport South Africa (RSSA) serves as the national governing body for roller sports in South Africa. Affiliated with WORLD SKATE, WORLD SKATE AFRICA, and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), RSSA is dedicated to promoting and developing all forms of skating within South Africa.

RSSA aims to elevate South Africa’s position among the top 15 skating nations globally by fostering a strong base of skilled coaches, officials, and administrators. Our skaters compete at both National and World Championships, with opportunities to engage in a variety of competitions, exhibitions, and recreational events. Notably, the Hammanskraal and Roll “R” Way Clubs in Gauteng stand out for their high standards in artistic and speed skating, hosting the only dedicated rinks in the province.

Since 2014, RSSA has re-established and nurtured artistic skating, resulting in notable achievements including World Championship participation by both male and female skaters. Our speed skaters have also made significant strides, with numerous athletes earning National Colours and competing internationally.

Recently, RSSA has embraced skateboarding, now representing this Olympic sport alongside traditional roller disciplines. This inclusion opens pathways for South African skateboarders to qualify for prestigious global events, including the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. With support from government entities and increasing local interest, RSSA is committed to expanding skateboarding opportunities, particularly for underprivileged youth and women, through dedicated training and community engagement.

Despite funding constraints, RSSA is devoted to the development of high-performance athletes and the growth of grassroots programs. Our Executive Committee oversees the federation’s efforts:

  • President: Wendy Gila
  • Vice President: Tumelo Moteme
  • Secretary: Desiree Nel
  • Financial Sub Committee (Acting): Shaun Van Biljon
  • Members: Clementia Modikwe, Andrea Stallbom, Jock Coimbra, Kanya Mekeni
  • Skaters Representative: Keamogetswe Masango

With a network of Provincial Associations and Clubs across South Africa, RSSA continues to drive the evolution of roller sports.
